The Academy of Historical Fencing has three clubs in the UK. The clubs include two in Bristol (Bradley Stoke) and one in Newport (Caerleon Campus). Visit the clubs page for more information. The club is run by a group of like minded martial artists looking to develop their skills and knowledge in a safe and relaxed environment whilst also sharing knowledge with like minded people. The club has over 100 members and instructors with a variety of skills, knowledge and expertise in different weapon forms, combat and research.
We teach armed and unarmed combat in the English, German and Italian traditions. We use longswords, sword & buckler, side sword, rapier, dagger, messer, sword & shield , quarterstaff and broadsword combat. We train primarily with steel weapons and armour is always worn for sparring.
Sword & buckler and sword & shield training starts in February at the AHF. This training will consist of both individual and group melee training. We will have bucklers and shields (black) available for club members to buy for approx £30 each. This training will take place at all three locations.
Ine the next three months a duel will be fought between Michael Thomas (Instructor, Academy of Historical Fencing) and Dierk Hagedorn (longsword instructor, Hammaborg, Germany). This duel has been arranged through the Martial Challenge website. The duel will consist of one bout, fought to 7 good hits. The weapons will of course be steel longswords and the duel followed by a civil drink of port.
Yep, the second of the AHF tournaments is finished. Well done to all who particpated, there were some really good and very close fought bouts. The rapier tournament was won by Alferi, beating Rob. The longsword tournament was won by Roger, having also beaten Rob in the finals, though he won't live down his cowardly run! Thanks also for all who attended to spectate as well, all fights were recorded on video by Steve and Photos by Pamela. The videos will be uploaded to youtube shortly as raw videos, I will edit some of the really good ones as I go along. The calibre of fighting was vastly improved over last year and I know that there are going to be many bruises this morning. Thank you again for all those who attended. Look out for the sabre tournament which will be coming shortly!
The martial challenege was fought during the HEMAC Swordfish event this weekend in (Gothenberg) Sweden.
